“Opportunity Knocks” is a three-day Aboriginal Youth Career Planning Conference held annually at White Oaks Resort and Spa in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

This event aims at providing youth approaching graduation, with an overview of opportunities and possibilities for Creative Career Pathways.  This event is fully-funded!  It includes bus travel to and from each catchment area to Niagara on the Lake, as well as all food and hotel accommodations at White Oaks Resort. Attendees are invited to come and enjoy an empowering conference with Elders, inspiring guest speakers, interactive educational workshops, traditional activities, a career and education fair, and much more! Topics include Post-secondary education, trades/ apprenticeships, entrepreneurship, scholarships, bursaries and world readiness. We are offering 100 Indigenous high school students (grades 9-12) the chance to attend Opportunity Knocks at no expense! Students will be provided with a return trip by bus from each of their catchment areas to the conference, chaperoned by their regional Youth Service Officer (YSO). Typically we have over 35 employers and educational institutions joining NPAAMB for the interactive career fair.

Eligibility

  • Be enrolled in grade 9-12 at a Secondary Institute
  • Must register as an NPAAMB client
  • Must reside within one of our five catchment areas (Kitchener-Waterloo, Brantford, Hamilton, St. Catharines, Fort Erie)
  • Self-identify as an Indigenous person (status/non-status First Nations, Inuit, Metis)

Date

Opportunity Knocks 2019 will be held November 14 – 16.
