SUMMARY

The Chiefswood Park Coordinator will work in collaboration with the Chiefswood Park Manager to ensure that tourism activities and community initiatives go hand in hand. This position will oversee the development, coordination and implementation of all services to be geared towards the community of Six Nations. In addition, the Chiefswood Park Coordinator will manage marketing activities such as social media and handle all bookings and reservations. This position will encompass all the responsibilities currently handled by the Six Nations Tourism Cultural Experience Coordinator.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 Monitor the day-to-day delivery of programming initiatives and services to maintain or improve quality

 Contact Elders from the community to provide guidance for cultural programs

 Facilities knowledge transfer between community Elders, Chiefswood Park staff and program participants

 Identify and develop a program framework for relevant cultural themes to be shared in line with overall Chiefswood Park goals and priorities

 Facilitate community programs and provide support to other facilitators as well program participants

 Develop educational content to be integrated into tourism operations as well as school groups community programs

 Monitor various aspects of community programs including: participant numbers and their progress, program efficiency and effectiveness, satisfaction among participants and all costs incurred related to community programs

 Manage the business incubation centre and provide guidance and support to community entrepreneurs who use its services

 Develop a communications plant to market community programs; monitor results and modify as necessary

 Develop partnerships with other community groups that complement Chiefswood Park’s cultural programs

 Coordination of Cultural Experience packages

 Ongoing promotion of Chiefswood Park including print media, online (website and social media) and other promotional activities

 Accept reservations and manage bookings for cultural tours, accommodations and events; respond to any general inquiries

 Pursue additional marketing opportunities that will attract new markets and increase visitors to Chiefswood Park

 Attend tourism events that will help to increase the park’s visibility

 Research any possible partnerships to pursue

ADDITIONAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 Knowledge of Six Nations history and culture.

 Native language an asset

 Basic training in Canoe and Kayak instruction

 Ability to enhance social media to promote a positive image of Six Nations Tourism

 Ability to handle the public with tact, discretion, and with a pleasing personality.

 Work independently or as a team member, with minimal supervision

 Proactive with time management

 Ability to problem solve and anticipate needs of visitors and peers

 Reliable, responsible and accountable

 A strong work ethic with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail.

 The ability to perform well under pressure and to assess and prioritize workload.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

 Interest or previous knowledge in Outdoor/Recreation Studies, Indigenous Studies, Hospitality, Tourism, or Marketing.

 Valid “G” Driver’s License and transportation.

 Basic training in canoe instruction

 Good verbal and written communication skills.

 Knowledge of Microsoft Office, iCloud, web-page, and social media applications.

 Experience working with the public, managing schedules and booking meetings.

 Must pass a police record check.

 Willingness to learn, accept change, and adapt to new ideas, business concepts, and cultures.

IMPACT OF ERROR

Error in judgement may lead to loss of credibility, poor public relations, public confidence and misinformation resulting in embarrassment and potential liability to the Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation.

 This position typically operates in a generally agreeable work environment.

 There is regular deadline pressure from various sources.
