The Position 
Reporting directly to the Director of Strategic Communications and Community Impact, this role will elevate Kids Help Phone as a thought leader in youth mental health on a national stage. Under your guidance, Kids Help Phone will not only be in demand as keynote speakers at conferences/councils/webinars, asked for interviews by national media as the expert in youth mental health but also heralded as the innovator building unprecedented access for every young person who need our help.
The successful candidate should have experience as journalist or PR leader in a previous organization. The PR and Thought Leadership Officer has an understanding of working in a flat organizational structure and possess exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal. The candidate will be a proven implementer and change agent with the ability to facilitate and participate in discussions that impact the entire organization. They’ll be a role model with a can-do attitude and will be prepared to roll up their sleeves to get things done.

What you’ll do

Run PR campaigns that deliver measurable results and meet objectives
Develop an extensive media relations plan inclusive of pitch campaigns, media monitoring and reporting
Develop and execute strategic relationships with media, influencers and celebrity spokespeople
Write and publish Press Releases and Thought-leadership pieces
Develop and design press kits
Media trained with demonstrated spokesperson experience
Provide media training for internal stakeholders
Maintain the CEO’s calendar for internal and external engagements
Create white papers that generate leads
Create opportunities for Kids Help Phone to participate in meaningful events and conferences
Coordinate speaking events
Approach areas to foster recognition, including award coordination
Manage brand reputation by monitoring and managing review sites (i.e. Indeed, Glassdoor)
Coordinate, develop and execute Integrated Marketing Communication plans for external events

What does a typical day in the role look like

Act as the main point of contact for all incoming media requests
Assess asks and evaluate for potential opportunities and risks
Determine appropriate spokesperson within the organization
Coordinate interviews and develop interview briefs to prep spokesperson
Engage brand and communications team to develop or promote relevant content on our channels that coincide with the media ask
Deliver post interview report to the Director of Strategic Communications

What you’ll need 

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English or related field
Minimum 5 years experience in journalism
Strong writing skills
Strong media skills and ability to strengthen and build relationships
Possess strong national media relationships
Demonstrated experience in executing influencer marketing campaigns and PR announcements
Ability to be flexible in a fast paced environment
Highly organized, detail-oriented, proactive, and a natural problem solver
Effective communication and collaboration skills, e.g., collaborative open style, working in teams, strong written and oral communicator, strategic thinker with ability to execute plans, calm under pressure
Demonstrated written ability through published white papers or nationally published articles
Bilingual an asset but not mandatory
