Job Type:             Full-time Salaried with Benefits

Salary Range:     $33,000.00 – $36,000.00 CAD, dependent on experience.



Responsible for the daily activities required to run, maintain, and service the Meridian Centre and its events. The Operator is responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of the ice surface, ice plant and arena building as well as the set up and tearing down of public and private functions in the building

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Conversion Focus:

·         Supervise all conversions and changeovers

·         Ensure all setups are done according to the event details provided

·         Maintain a safe working environment for all conversion staff

·         Train all conversion staff on how to safely and efficiently execute a conversion.

·         Continuously look for areas to improve in systems products and standards

·         Supervise and coordinate activities of part time operations personnel.

·         Investigate, analyze and resolve operational issues.

·         Develop long range plans for future events

·         Assist Operations Coordinator in Scheduling appropriate changeover personnel to accurately and efficiently set-up and tear down events

·         Communicate between shifts the necessary tasks that still need to be completed

·         Working knowledge of operations equipment including Ice Resurfacers, forklifts, pallet jacks, staging, etc.

·         Report any needed repairs and follow up to ensure they have been completed.

·         Perform building opening and closing procedures; Building maintenance; ground maintenance and custodial duties; Perform minor repairs.

·         Monitor the refrigeration plant in accordance with legal requirements.

·         Other duties as assigned.

·         The safe and effective change over (Conversion) from one event to the next

·         Perform building opening and closing procedures; assist in providing facility security and ensuring procedures are followed in the event of evacuation, fire alarms, injuries, etc.

·         Perform minor repairs.

·         Monitor the refrigeration plant in accordance with legal requirements.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervises subordinate hourly part-time supervisors in any of the following operational sub-departments: conversion, cleaning, and game day staff. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with ASM Global’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; and directing work; and addressing complaints and resolving problems in conjunction with Human Resources and department Manager.


Education & Experience

The ideal candidate would:

·         Secondary school graduate.

·         Related work experience an asset.

·         Ability to do heavy lifting and ability to work at heights.

·         Supervisory experience preferred.

·         Demonstrated familiarity with tools and maintenance equipment.

·         Experience working in an Arena an asset, especially familiarity with an Ice Resurfacer

·         Ability to work with limited supervision and as a team member.

·         Ability to develop good rapport with management, tenants, fellow employees and the general public.

·         Excellent organization skills.

·         Ability to prioritize and to handle multiple projects simultaneously, working under tight deadlines.

·         Professional presentation, appearance and work ethic.

·         Adaptability; able to adapt to changes in the workplace.

·         Some basic computer skills.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

·         Must possess valid Ontario class “G” driver licence.

·         Valid Forklift Certificate.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to walk extensively; occasionally required to kneel, climb to high walkways or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.


This position requires work inside and outside of the building and some exposure to adverse conditions. Additionally this job includes close vision for review of information on a PC monitor, as well as hard copy output.  In addition, use of hands for typing.


Other Requirements

·         Due to the nature of our business candidates will need to be able to work flexible hours; including evenings, overnights, weekends and holidays, and normal business hours.
