The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is dedicated to safeguarding food, animals and plants. To support this effort, we are seeking enthusiastic students to provide support in the food programs by assisting with or completing field related activities. Duties of the position

  • independently collect samples of food products both import and export including but not limited to Fresh Fruits and Vegetables, Fish, Processed Products, Dairy, Eggs, Meat etc.
  • prepare sampling receipts as required for samples obtained
  • travel to processing facilities, warehouses, retail outlets, greenhouses, importers or any other place where samples may need to be taken
  • package and organize collected samples for shipping to the appropriate labs
  • prepare electronic reports for sample submission to the labs using CFIA database systems
  • organize and possibly prepare shipping documents electronically for courier services using CFIA accounts
  • prepare a monthly report (MRRS) of detailing the work that has been completed each month
  • interact with regulated parties in a professional manner when conducting sampling activities
  • communicate effectively both orally and in writing as necessary to both regulated parties and internal staff when required (ie email, phone, in person)
  • attend appropriate training sessions and pass courses with a minimum grade (such as WHMIS, OSH and defensive driving)
  • work independently and organize schedule to meet set deadlines

Requirements to apply

  • Security clearance
  • Undergo and pass a pre-placement health evaluation
  • Valid driver’s licence

Employment period: Approximately four months (May to August 2019)

Work Location: Kingsville Guelph and Toronto, Ontario
