Summer Student

Start Date:  June 24th, 2019

Hours:  35 hours per week

3 Positions:  Summer Camp Counselor

To work in conjunction with a Summer Camp Coordinator in the development and implementation of a 7 week Summer Camp Program for Aboriginal Youth between the ages of 7 – 13 offered thru the Hamilton Regional Indian Centre.


  • To Assist the Camp Coordinator in the development and implementation of an Aboriginal Summer Camp Program.
  • To assist with the research and development of culturally relevant material and activities for youth to participate in.
  • To Act as Role Models for the youth at all times during Camp session, following the Seven Grandfather Teachings with the youth.
  • To assist with the supervision of all youth to ensure their safety during camp activities.
  • To follow direction from Camp Coordinator when initiating programs and activities.
  • To keep the work area clean at all times, ensuring a safe environment for the youth to work within.
  • To Assist with Meal and Snack preparation for the youth, including preparation, serving and clean up.



  • In Secondary or Post-Secondary and returning to school in the Fall of 2018.
  • Current First Aid and CPR Training or be willing to be certified
  • Safe Food Handling Certification or be willing to be certified
  • Excellent Communications Skills, both written and verbal.
  • Good Organizational Skills.
  • Good Leadership Skills.
  • Good Time Management Skills.
  • Experience in Supervision of Children.
  • Work well in a Team atmosphere.
  • Be of Aboriginal descent.
