Summer Student

Start Date:  May 27th, 2019   

Hours:  35 hours per week

Position: Summer Camp Lead

To develop and implement a 7-week Summer Camp Program offered thru the Hamilton Regional Indian Centre.

Duties:

  • To develop and implement an Aboriginal Summer Camp program for Aboriginal Youth age(s) 7 – 12.
  • To research and development of culturally relevant material and activities for the youth to participate in, such as drumming, dancing, craft making, traditional art forms, hiking, canoeing, etc.
  • To provide guidance and leadership to the other Camp Counsellors when required when coordinating program activity for the youth.
  • Be responsible for the overall supervision of youth activities while working with the other Camp Counsellors.
  • Complete written reports on activities and provide to immediate supervisor on a weekly basis.
  • Administrative duties when required.
  • To act as a ROLE MODEL for the other Camp Counsellors to follow.

Qualifications:

  • Starting or In Post-Secondary and returning to school in the Fall of 2019
  • Fundraising experience
  • Current First Aid and CPR Training or be willing to be certified
  • Safe Food Handling Certification or be willing to be certified
  • Excellent Communications Skills, both written and verbal.
  • Good Organizational Skills.
  • Good Leadership Skills.
  • Good Time Management Skills.
  • Experience in Supervision of Children.
  • Able to work will in a Team atmosphere.
  • Be of Aboriginal descent.
  • Be a Self Starter.
