Through the 10-week Oya:na Program, I was able to obtain my Standard First Aid and CPR/AED Level C, Food Handlers and WHIMIS certificates. As well, I was provided training in Occupational Health and Safety for Workers, Workplace Violence and Harassment, Customer Service, and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act. All of this training will increase my chances of getting employment, and help improve my socio-economic and financial stability in the long-run. As well, I learned how to work well with others, and the program helped me become more aware of my culture. Completing the Oya:na Program has given me the confidence to apply for a Personal Support Worker Program, and if successful I would like to like to apply to a Leisure and Recreation Program. My goal is to work with the elders in long-term care facilities doing recreational therapy to keep both their minds and bodies active.
