This January NPAAMB announced the formation of a Youth Leadership Group, who will help inform programs, services, events and other initiatives. We invited youth interested in joining the Leadership Group to join us at a special retreat in St Catharines, designed specifically for them. Youth had the opportunity to learn about internal processes and procedures from Executive Director, Jason Shawana, and have open discussion about future goals and potential projects. Youth participated in group and individual activities designed to showcase their unique strengths and talents.

The event marked the beginning of our selection process; successful attendees will next be invited to interview for Leadership Group Positions. There are a limited number of positions available in the group, reserved for 1 male presenting, 1 female presenting, and 1 two-spirit youth in each of the six cities we hold offices in: Kitchener, Brantford, Hamilton, St Catharines, Fort Erie and Niagara Falls. Youth selected for these positions will hold the unique role of representing their local peers in decision planning and execution.

Not only will these youth leaders work to develop their own initiatives and goals, but they’ll also work toward supporting the Youth-Led Poverty Reduction Strategy, funded by the Ontario Trillium Fund.

It’s important that youth remain the center of our focus and purpose, and when we listen to their voices we support and uplift the next generation. Our Youth Leadership Group is in it’s early stages of formation- stay tuned for the selection announcement when youth are awarded their positions, coming soon!
